The Hennepin Canal is a man-made canal that runs through most of the northern part of the state of Illinois.  It runs from Chicago in the east to Rock Island (Part of the Quad Cities) in western Illinois.  It was not used that long, however today it is a utilized for recreation such as hiking and pleasure boating.
